On July 1, 2015, FUSION Media announced that the channel was to be discontinued and that its programming would be replaced by Knowledge Network, becoming the first Canadian English language specialty channel to broadcast on both Canada and the United States television markets. History The channel launched on April 30, 2000 as Nature (a portmanteau of nature and entertainment), as a television channel focused on the scientific community. The new channel was primarily focused on science and technology, with series such as X-Files, Star Trek, Stargate Atlantis, Battlestar Galactica and Transformers. GeekFusion launched its own television channel on July 1, 2015, as part of Bell Media's new programming line-up. The channel's programming was to be replaced by Knowledge Network, becoming the first Canadian English-language channel to broadcast on both Canada and the United States television markets. On July 27, 2015, Bell Media announced that the new Knowledge Network channel was to be rebranded as Knowledge Channel as part of a rebranding of the Bell Media portfolio in its entirety.
